What does global citizen scholar mean to you? How will you use your strengths, interests, and values to develop a greater knowledge of self to pursue opporunities through the UHP and beyond? What contributions do you want to make?
By looking at definitions, global means of or relating to the whole world, or worldwide. Citizen means a native or naturalized, and scholar means a specialist in a particular branch of study especially the humanities, or a distinguished academic. Looking at these definitions and considering the whole vision of the UHP program, a global citizen scholar to me means someone who is a native in a certain subject and using their knowledge to relate to the people around you in different cultures. I believe that it is not just certain subjects, but becoming proficient in multiple areas and then teaching the people around you. One of my biggest interests at the moment is the awareness that people have about abuse, and the signs of abuse. I think by using my strengths, I can collect information, and then I can relate to people who I would never have a chance to relate to without exploring this idea. I also think that I can learn a lot by studying the different books, and by looking at people who have experienced this situation. I think by looking at this idea, I will be able to gather who I am better, and understand what my true values in my life will be. In the end I want to start small and make a contribution to my family and the community immediately surrounding me by educating them on the signs of abuse, and by showing them that there is something that we can do in order to help these children. I believe I can accomplish this by looking into more classes offered, volunteering at child abuse center, and by improving myself by working on my weaknesses and by always keeping true to my values.
