Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is an organization that supports Women in STEM fields. The main goals that SWE has is to provide an organization where women can support each other in a predominantly male field. The organization provides social, fundraising, conferences, and menotr/mentee events for the girls to interact. While SWE is an organization for women, everyone is welcome who supports what we stand for.
Year 4- Fall 2018-Spring 2019
This year I am the social chair for the entire academic year. The social chair is responsible for social events along with volunteering activities. For the Fall semester I have planned a movie night that got ruined by the rain, a trip to see the Reds on firework night, DIY stress balls, and game night. I tried to plan most of these events on Fridays or Thursdays and wanted most of them to be on campus or very close to off campus to ensure we got a maximum number of participates. The two biggest hits so far are DIY stress balls and the Reds game. For volunteer activities I try to find different opportunities for a lot of hours to be accomplished, currently I have us signed up for Fall Fiesta and 65 Roses Gala. More to come on social and volunteering events!
Year 3- Fall 2017 - Spring 2018
This year, I did not attend too many events or meetings this semester. I joined an organization called CHAARG, and the meeting times conflicted. Next year, though I signed up to be the Social Chair though, and I am really excited to see what next year has to offer!
Year 2- Fall 2016 - Spring 2017
This year, I have helped shaped the organization to appeal to more students while monitoring the attendance and how we could can improve attendance throughout the meetings. Being apart of the exec board allows for me to look at behind the scenes operations and all the work that is required to hold an organization together. I was unable to go to the national conference due to a previous committee for my honors seminar; however, many of the students that went had a lot of fun and enjoy the trip! I attended regional conference that took place in Pittsburgh! It was very rewarding some of the classes that were offered at the conference. Next year I am looking to take a step back from the exec board and focus more on the events within the semester!
Year 1- Fall 2015-Spring 2016
My first year apart of the organization I signed up to be an intern for the High School Outreach program. Being an intern for this program I helped make signs for the event, help facilate the event that was put on. I also participated in social events, fundraising events, and in the regional conference that was held on the University of Cincinnati. This organization made me proud to be a women engineer making me want to apply for an executive position within the organization. Due to the fact that executive officers hold the term for the entire school year I was only able to apply for the secretary position because my co-op for the spring semester is going to be away from Cincinnati.
