Going into my freshman year, I was not automatically put into honors, but was heavily debating if I wanted to apply to be a part of honors. During the fall semester, there was not a second thought about it, because with all my classes, and trying to engulf the culture I was very busy. I joined two clubs on campus and became heavily involved in them. I joined the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and became a part of the publicity, social, and mentor/mentee committee, while also being involved in the mentor/mentee program. In the publicity committee I was in charge of making posts on twitter every-time we had a meeting. While, this seems like an easy task because all adolescents are on their phones nowadays, it was actually really difficult because I rarely use social media to post. The social committee met biweekly, to help plan events for AIChE. I was in charge of setting up a night for bowling. Finally, the mentor I helped set up underclassman with upperclassman to help guide them through their freshman year. I also participated in social events and some community service with AIChE. The next club I joined was the Society of Women Engineers where I was a part of the High School Outreach program as an intern. I helped them plan their big event for the spring semester in order to help prepare high school students for coming to college, and to help them think about what classes they might want to take if they are interested in becoming a chemical engineer. In the second half of the semester I was an intern for the banquet, where I helped read essays to determine the essay winner at our banquet. I also helped plan the banquet. Finally, I also participated in social, and fundraising events. While doing all of these I manage to still concentrate on school, go to Newport, attend football games, and go to a haunted house. I really dived in my freshman year, in order to keep up with the same busy schedule I had during my high school years. My spring semester I was told that there were applications to apply to the honors program. I thought about the program and what it could offer me, along with why I wanted to be in honors. After discussing it with many people, I decided I wanted to apply. I am glad I did apply because the class I am already taking for my first honors experience, is so humbling. Honors is going to allow me to fulfill BoKs in a more meaningful way and allow me to learn more about topics I may not have be able to learn without the honors program. Not only meaningful BoK, but the honors program will give me many experience to go abroad, if I choose, and mold me into the person that I want to become. I feel like I am changing who I am by being involved in the honors program. I continued my second semester of school, and ended up landing a co-op a week after the career fair. I am going to work for BASF in their Greenville, OH location for the Spring of 2017. This is going to be an experience of living on my own completely, and I am extremely excited to go experience a new chapter in my life. Continuing to be heavily involved in my clubs, I then applied to be secretary in both clubs that I joined, adding to the stress for the nest semester, but something I know I could handle, and want to have to continue to stay involved. Before honors, I did not realize the experiences that I could have and the opportunities it would give me, and I will have a new outlook on life knowing that I get to experience things that some students will never get to do.
